Face Guide - How Face Shapes Affect Hair Styles

Round Face
round shaped faceThis Face shape has about the same length as width. If you have a round face, you want to try to elongate the face and give it more definition. What works great? Longer Lengths (below the chin) with face framing layers will work the best. A deep side part with side a swept fringe (bangs) also creates a slimming illusion.

Heart Face
heart shaped faceThis Face shape is narrower at the jaw and chin and wider at the forehead.  For this shape, go with a deep side part and a chin length cut that balances this facial shape.  Keep the style soft and add long layers around the face.  A small wispy fringe will also provide a nice dimension.

Oval Face
oval shaped faceIn this well-proportioned face, length is about one and a half times the width. To have this shape is truly a treat, because you can wear almost any style.

Pear Face
pear shaped faceThis face is wider at the chin and jaw and narrower at the forehead. Solution? Height along with width will balance this out.  Draw attention to the eyes with some volume and fullness at the crown area.

Square Face
square shaped faceThis face is defined by a broad forehead, wide jaw line and wide cheekbones.  Off center parts and face framing layers that are blown away from the face work wonders with this face shape. Rounder and textured bangs help to soften the edges.

Long Face
long shaped faceThis face has width shorter than its length. For the best styles try shorter, chin length layered styles with a wide fringe to help add necessary width to a very elongated face.
